“That’s What We Don’t Want” – Pochettino Has His Own Clear Plan For Highly Rated Spurs Youngster

|

With Tottenham Hotspur fans clamouring to see highly rated Academy prospect Troy Parrott gain his promotion properly through to manager Mauricio Pochettino’s first team plans, our Argentine gaffer is urging caution and rather than a quick promotion up from the Under 23 group, Poch prefers to stick to the plan the club obviously have on the table for the 17-year-old talent.

Calls for Parrott’s inclusion will have only intensified over the September international break as although Mick McCarthy didn’t call on him for the full Republic of Ireland squad, the youngster did make the step up to their Under 21 group and not only did he net on his debut, he scored twice more as they faced Sweden on Tuesday evening, but speaking to Football London in midweek, although our gaffer was clearly pleased with the progress and development Parrott had made over the last 12 months, he saw no need to rush and preferred to remain patient to ensure that when he does get the call, he’s perfectly prepared for it.

“I think the progress was there because he had the possibility to be involved in pre-season. Now he’s more consistently training with the first team. But I think he needs time, we need to be relaxed. We cannot put his name in the spotlight every day because we’re not going to help him by doing that. He’s still so young. The best way to help him is to be calm and relaxed about him. If he’s going to be involved, perfect. If he’s going to be involved with the U23s instead, perfect. Sometimes he’ll train with us, good. Now it’s a process where he needs to be relaxed. If we put too much pressure we’re going to force or push him to make a mistake and that’s what we don’t want.”

With further first team involvement, even if it’s just extra training throughout the week, I still think we’ll see him get some minutes in the EFL Cup tie against Colchester United, even if it’s just a late second half substitute bow with the pressure completely off him.
