TalkSPORT presenter makes embarrassing prediction about Tottenham, could not be more wrong

|

TalkSPORT presenter Darren Gough believes Tottenham have been saving their money over the last 18 months to put it towards a summer spree. He’s tipping Spurs to “take four new signings” to their new stadium, but it’s an embarrassing prediction based on nothing other than an unresearched opinion.

Gough said on talkSPORT (h/t Daily Star): “I think the timing about it is absolutely perfect, what Tottenham are doing. What will happen now is they will not do what Arsenal did. I think they will go out – they’ve not made a signing now for 18 months – they will go out there and take four new signings with them into the new stadium.

“You watch, they’ve done it on purpose! There’s a reason they’ve saved their money and not gone and done anything. They’ve sorted out their own player’s contracts; made sure they look after the ones they want. And they are going to go out there and surprise everyone and sign four players for next season. You watch!”

Tottenham’s stadium build has spiralled out of control, reportedly causing the club to spend up to £1bn – that’s where any spare money has gone, not on future transfers. Spurs attaining Champions League football for next season will help them financially, but Gough’s prediction is way off.

The reason why Mauricio Pochettino has been tying his best players down to long-term deals is to avoid a situation that he finds himself in with Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen and Christian Eriksen who could all leave Tottenham on a free transfer in 2020.

Vital Spurs already debunked Shaka Hislop’s claim that Jadon Sancho would be a “good fit” for the club and now Gough must be put to task for his comments. Controversial ‘construction delays’ slowed down progress and cost the club a considerable amount of money.

Daniel Levy isn’t likely to sanction any big-spending this season, but this should have been obvious to Gough.
