Opinion: Englishman is not a ‘perfect fit’ for Tottenham, Shaka Hislop is wrong

|

Shaka Hislop tipped Tottenham to sign Jadon Sancho this summer, saying the Borussia Dortmund winger was a “perfect fit” for the Londoners. However, Hislop is ignoring how much money it would take to sign Sancho and he’s ignorant to the fact that the 19-year-old may not want to join Tottenham.

He said (h/t Daily Star): “I just feel that this is a perfect fit for Sancho and his talents. Let’s keep in mind that Daniel Levy and Spurs have barely spent any money over the last couple of seasons. Pochettino will be promised money. If I’ve got a whole lot of money to spend and I’m looking for an up and coming talent, Jadon Sancho ticks all those boxes. I think Spurs spend heavy on him.”

Sancho has risen to prominence since leaving City for Dortmund in 2017, scoring and creating 31 goals in 47 games in all competitions. The English international has been valued at around £100m, so why would Spurs ever be linked?

Hislop believes Tottenham have saved money over the last 12 months to spend on new recruits, but he’s completely ignoring why the Lilywhites have slowed down in the transfer market – the spiralling costs of the new stadium build.

Spurs haven’t made a permanent signing for more than a year, so why would their first piece of business be to break the Premier League record? Sancho is financially out of reach. That’s not to say he wouldn’t improve the squad, however.

The teenager has contributed 20 league goals, has created 54 chances and made 83 successful dribbles. Tottenham’s record signing is Davinson Sanchez (up to £42m from Ajax). They aren’t going to sign a player for 250% of that figure.
