Stat Attack: Spurs 0-2 Villa

|

Yesterday afternoon, Spurs slumped to a tame 2-0 defeat against Aston Villa in front of their own supporters to get their 2023 off to the worst possible start. Read the match report here, Antonio Conte’s post-match reaction here and the player ratings here.

You can also have your say on yesterday’s events from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on the Vital Spurs fan forum here. Below are the pick of the stats from yesterday’s match:

  • This was Villa’s first win over Spurs by more than a single-goal margin since 2000 (a 2-0 victory over Spurs at Villa Park in November 2000).
  • Before yesterday, Villa’s last three wins against Spurs in the league had also been away from home and by a single-goal margin (2-1 in 2008, 1-0 in 2015, 2-1 in 2021).
  • This was the first time that Spurs had failed to score at home in the Premier League under Antonio Conte in 10 Premier League games, with the last home blank they drew coming in April 2022’s 1-0 defeat to Brighton.
  • This is officially Spurs’ worst run in the Premier League under Antonio Conte (2 wins in 7 matches, 3 defeats, 2 draws).
  • Moreover, Spurs have conceded 2+ goals for the last seven consecutive league matches, a new Premier League record-low for the club (this has not happened since November 1988 in the Old 1st Division).
  • Spurs have conceded first in each of their last seven Premiership matches, the first time this has happened since 2010 in the 2010/11 season under Harry Redknapp.
  • Spurs have now conceded first in the last ten matches in all competitions this season, and 16 out of their 24 matches so far.
  • With Hugo Lloris gifting Villa the first goal, Spurs have gifted opponents five goals in the Premiership this season, at least two more than any other team (via Premier League).
  • Of those 5 goals, Lloris has been responsible for three, more than any other Premiership player (via Premier League).

The coach/ manager is clueless. Far too defensive and boring. Should never be at Spurs. Get rid and choose a modern, forward thinking coach.
