Spurs Will Pay For Summer Transfer Failure As New Price For Target Is Revealed

|

There can’t be a Tottenham Hotspur fan out there who isn’t aware of our long running chase for Aston Villa starlet Jack Grealish.

The 23-year-old was clearly one of our top targets over the summer and we were in pole position to secure his capture given the financial problems the Villans found themselves in and the sale of Grealish would’ve been a silver bullet to their issues for most of the summer.

With the haggling on going in typical Daniel Levy style as he looked for the best price from our perspective, how close a deal actually was will probably never be known, but the England hopeful is on record saying he expected to leave and his head had been turned.

Ultimately it didn’t happen as they secured new owners who closed the door on the transfer, and as well as truly showing what he’s capable of in the second half of this season, the boyhood Villa fan also penned a new five year extension.

Over the weekend the Mirror claimed in an exclusive that they had learn the release fee in his new deal was a whopping £60million.

Now it’s the Mirror, so accuracy is naturally a question, but those Spurs fans who would’ve liked to have seen him in our shirt would certainly have expected a release fee of around £30-40, but at £60million, if accurate, well, as someone who wanted Grealish at White Hart Lane, I don’t now see it happening.
