Agent reveals reason Spurs missed out on target

|

After Arsenal confirmed the signing of Leandro Trossard from fellow Premier League side Brighton on Friday afternoon, many supporters of Tottenham Hotspur were sitting there wondering how their North London rivals were able to swoop in and steal an ostensible transfer target from under their noses so swiftly.

Indeed, over the past ten days or so, talk of Tottenham making a move for Trossard had been intensifying, particularly after the Belgian had been omitted from his then-side’s victory over Liverpool at the AMEX stadium last weekend.

Trossard’s fall-out with Brighton boss Roberto de Zerbi put him on the market, and Spurs had been interested in the 28-year-old Belgian forward and even had an offer knocked back.

However, after missing out on primary target Mikhaylo Mudryk, Arsenal came forward for Trossard on Wednesday, had an agreement with Brighton and the player on Thursday, and by Friday, the deal was done – Trossard even featured for his new side in their victory over Manchester United a short time ago.

According to Trossard’s agent, Josy Comhair, the swiftness with which Arsenal decided to pursue their man and meet Brighton’s asking price was the reason that SPurs missed out on their man.

As per FourFourTwo, Comhair stated that Spurs’ indecision was ultimately the reason behind their failure to capture his client:

“Spurs were in contact with us for the last two weeks – but it was, ‘We want him, but wait this, wait that’.

“[On] Wednesday, we got in touch with Arsenal; 24 hours later, they had an agreement.”

While this may frustrate Spurs fans, one must assume that if the club wanted Trossard that much, they would have tried harder to sign him, so it seems that the interest in the Belgian was based on a more speculative and inquisitive inquiry rather than a deep-rooted desire to capture him.
