Spurs set to make decision on youngster’s future

|

Yesterday’s 1-0 win over Portsmouth yet again saw Spurs boss Antonio Conte preserve with Emerson Royal at wing-back, much to the annoyance of the Spurs fanbase. It was hoped that a game against League One opposition would see Djed Spence receive his first start since joining the club but Conte seems to have his mind fixed on preserving with the Brazilian.

A lot has been said amongst Spurs fans regarding Djed Spence, with a large section of the fan base growing frustrated at the lack of opportunities for the wing-back. Spence, who was signed from Middlesbrough for around £15 million, has only managed 41 minutes of football this season (Transfermarkt) most recently coming on as a late substitute in yesterday’s win (match report here).

Spence’s lack of game time has lead to calls from fans to loan out the youngster so he can get some more minutes under his belt. There is said to be interest in the youngster with Football London stating there are a number of clubs keeping an eye on the 22-year-old with German side Bayer Leverkusen set to be interested as well as three unnamed Premier League clubs.

The club are now set to make a decision on the player in the coming weeks – that decision likely comes down to whether the club can bring in a new wing-back this January with the club’s pursuits of Pedro Porro and Denzel Dumfries being highly documented in recent weeks.
