Spurs Manager Keeps Faith With Player Despite Error & Confirms Starting Spot Against Palace

|

With goalkeeper Hugo Lloris causing frustration in our last Premier League clash against Liverpool, as he parried what most believe to have been a simple catch onto an unsuspecting Toby Alderweireld to give them the late victory, Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has publicly backed him to bounce back and confirmed that the Frenchman will be between the sticks at White Hart Lane in our opening game on Wednesday evening at the new stadium when we welcome Crystal Palace.

Speaking at his press conference ahead of the game on Tuesday afternoon, Sky Sports have our Argentine gaffer absolving Lloris of blame.

“He’s my captain; he is one of the best goalkeepers in the world, that is in no doubt. It was a situation that was a little bit unlucky for him. The lack of reaction from our player meant we conceded a goal. Tomorrow he is going to be in goal. It is a situation that is so painful because I think we deserved more but, this happens in football. He has been so important in the project over the last 5 years, and he is going to be one of the most important players for the club in the future too.”

Whilst it’s admirable Poch has backed Lloris here, whilst fans highlight his errors this season it does lead to overlooking the points he’s helped us win with the saves he has made, and few would expect anything else from our gaffer, I struggle to believe that Alderweireld should take any blame here.

That’s still a catch and hold all day long for me.

The best response to our last disappointment will be a return to winning ways and all three points though, and let’s hope that’s what we’re celebrating come the end of the evening.
