Spurs Improve & In The Battle For The Left Hand Corner We Take A Step Closer To Wembley – Match Stats

What seems like only another 24 hours off and Tottenham Hotspur were back on White Hart Lane soil earlier this evening as we welcomed Chelsea for the EFL Cup fourth round.

Manager Jose Mourinho was inevitably going to shake the starting XI up again given our bordering on the ridiculous fixture list but it was almost anyone’s guess as to who he would choose, but we did see the return of Japhet Tanganga and a debut for Sergio Reguilon.

It wasn’t a great start and the visitors utterly dominated, with their breakthrough coming 19 minutes in. There was a bit of huff and puff and although they still had more of the ball we started to test Mendy between the sticks and began creating more than they did.

Late on with just over five minutes remaining on the clock, Erik Lamela made the breakthrough to bring us back on level terms, and Reguilon got his debut club assist.

So, 1-1 at the full time whistle, onto penalties – whatever happens from here, we ended with more positives than we started.
