Spurs eye “outstanding” 27-goal forward as Levy hunts for Kane backup – Report

|

According to a report from the Times, Spurs have been ‘regularly‘ scouting Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard as a potential back up to star forward Harry Kane – but it would take a bid in excess of £25 million to convince the Hoops to part ways.

Edouard bagged an impressive tally of 22 goals in 25 league starts for Celtic before the SPFL’s untimely cancellation, resulting in Spurs scouts noting a potential interest in the player given Kane’s recent injury troubles.

Should Spurs sign Edouard?

Yes

No

In all competitions, the Frenchman totalled 27 goals and 19 assists over 45 appearances – with six of those strikes coming in Europe over their Champions League and Europa League stints.

Indeed, despite the fact he plies his trade in a debatably inferior league, the same could be said for previous Spurs target Moussa Dembele – with the 23-year-old going on to turn heads since signing for Lyon.

This could indicate that Edouard would be a talismanic option at a fairly low price, but chairman Daniel Levy has apparently ruled out any serious summer spending due to the impact of a recent pandemic.

However, given the forward’s SPFL exploits over 2019/2020, he may well be worth the investment as Kane’s understudy – with Celtic boss Neil Lennon waxing lyrical over the youngster’s contributions to their title win this season.

Back in January, Lennon hailed Edouard as ‘outstanding’ and ‘talented’ whilst also claiming he is ‘cool‘ in front of goal – debatably just what Spurs need as we scour for attacking strength in depth.

Whether or not we do move for the striker remains to be seen, but he may well be a potential coup.

Nonsense. He won’t go anywhere as back-up. And 25 is too low. Celtic will insist the bidding starts at 30m. They paid 9m for him, huge for Scotland buttons for the tourist league. Got to pay the stupid England tax, if you are stupid English.
