Spurs begin negotiations over “tenacious” 24 y/o, Levy plots Ndombele alternative – Report

|

According to a report from the Guardian, Tottenham have entered negotiations to sign heavily linked Southampton target Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and could offer defender Kyle Walker-Peters in a swap deal to bring down his lofty £35 million price tag.

Hojbjerg, who has started 30 games under Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl this campaign, becoming a vital asset in their bid to avoid the drop, is now at the centre of chairman Daniel Levy’s interest as we reportedly plot a plan of action surrounding club record signing Tanguy Ndombele.

Should Spurs sign Hojbjerg to fix the Ndombele conundrum?

Yes, get the deal done Levy

No, better options out there

The Frenchman has been on the fringes of this Spurs side since football’s resumption after lock down, failing to make a single Premier League start – with Levy and manager Jose Mourinho now reportedly looking at Hojbjerg.

Even though our boss is under pressure to make a success of Ndombele, who cost us £53.8 million last summer, the Guardian claim signing Hojbjerg could bolster his presence in the squad – allowing the 23-year-old more freedom to roam around midfield as an alternative to his current position.

If Tottenham were to secure the Saints stalwart, Mourinho could deploy him as a deep-lying midfielder sitting just in front of the back four with Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso moving forward.

Once described as ‘tenacious‘, the Dane could certainly allow us more freedom to deploy the likes of Ndombele and Lo Celso in more advanced positions – especially going by his WhoScored stats.

Indeed, Hojbjerg has averaged more tackles per 90 than any Spurs midfielder this season, with Levy and co now weighing up a swap deal to bring him to north London.
