Spurs are taking the right steps with reported major signing to facilitate Mourinho – Opinion

|

Football is a fast-moving game when all the gears and parts begin to work on the same wavelength, and Tottenham this week are moving at an extraordinary pace.

Mauricio Pochettino was sacked by Tottenham on Monday night, and not even 12 hours after the Argentine had left the club, Jose Mourinho was announced as the new man at the helm for Spurs with an entire supporting cast to boot as confirmed on the club’s official website.

And now in the Mourinho era of Tottenham, the club are seemingly set for more big moves off the pitch as Sky Sports News report that Lille sporting director Luis Campos is open to joining the north London side to work alongside the former Manchester United manager.

Do You See Campos As Being A Game Changer Here?

Yes

No

Although the report goes on to say that it is unlikely for Campos to move to Spurs at this stage of the season given the Portuguese figurehead’s commitment to the Ligue 1 side and the length of his contract with the club, it is a massively promising sign that Tottenham are choosing to head in this direction under Mourinho.

Despite Tottenham being a club that in recent years have been praised for their ability to sign quality talent for not only on the cheap but also for big resale value, with Dele Alli being signed from MK Dons for a reported fee of £5m according to BBC Sport and now boasting a Transfermarkt valuation of £81m, the appointment of a sporting director will be greatly beneficial for Spurs.

The role has been used to great effect in leagues such as the Bundesliga as reported from the division’s official website, with Borussia Dortmund often seen as one of the best clubs in world football for sniffing out a bargain in the transfer market, and with Mourinho a manager who often knows what he wants from his signings, a sporting director will be highly useful for the Portuguese manager.

A sporting director is a step in the right direction for Tottenham, and although the club seemingly won’t be able to appoint Mourinho’s former Real Madrid assistant manager for the job, the addition of one in time for next summer could be the difference between Spurs finishing again in a top-four spot or doing the unthinkable and aiming for the title.
