Skinner Previews London City

|

Speaking to SPURSPLAY (via the club’s official website) after Wednesday night’s defeat at home to Chelsea in the Conte Cup, Tottenham Hotspur Women head coach Rehanne Skinner had already been looking ahead to Sunday’s FA encounter against Women’s Championship side London City Lionesses.

Skinner started by stating her respect against a side that will be understandably be perceived as underdogs given their status as a Championship taking on a WSL one, but wanted her players that they were in for a tough test:

“It’s gonna be tough, against that kind of team in that situation in the Championship it will be perceived that they will be underdogs. We’ve been perceived that we will be underdogs in [the Chelsea] game [on Wednesday] as well, but ultimately, it’s a cup game, and it’s eleven versus eleven, and every game is a test, and it’ll be tough”, Skinner told SPURSPLAY.

Indeed, Skinner urged her players to build on the positive display in the Chelsea defeat by sticking to the basics that they did so well against the league leaders, and by working hard on their individual tasks to avoid an upset against the Lionesses:

“There’s no fear to be had when you’re in that position, so we have to come out fighting, and we have to make sure that we do our jobs really, really well, and that we build on what we’ve done today [against Chelsea].”

Skinner concluded on emphasising the need for her side to maintain a degree of consistency in their performances between now and the end of the campaign, something that Spurs have yet to display this season:

“The most important thing for us is the consistency of performances now moving forward for the rest of the season.”
