Sassuolo defender emerges as Spurs transfer target

|

Fabio Paratici’s extensive knowledge of the Serie A has lead to a number of players based in Italy linked with a move to Spurs this summer, including the likes of Leonardo Bonucci, Manuel Locatelli and Domenico Berardi.

Over the last week or so, the club have also made big strides in completing their first transfer deal of the summer, with Bologna defender Takehiro Tomiyasu expected to sign should the two teams finally agree on the fee.

While the valuation remains just a couple million euros apart, Spurs could begin to pursue other targets in the near future if a deal cannot be reached, particularly with a whole host of other Premier League clubs including North London rivals Arsenal interested in the Japanese international.

With the right-back area in desperate need of a fresh face, Spurs reportedly could turn to Sassuolo’s 22-year-old Mert Muldur, who is a full Turkish International born in the Austrian capital of Vienna.

Despite not making a single goal contribution at all for club or country last season, Spurs’ sporting director Paratici is a fond admirer of the right-back – even after struggling at this years European Championships.

However, the full-back can play with both feet and would definitely be an option for left-back should he be required there, and with a market value of just over £8 million according to Transfermarkt, he could be a bargain option for the club should funds be spent elsewhere.

Jules Kounde is Nuno’s top target, and the club are willing to pay over £50 million to sign the player, so Muldur could prove to be a potential gem should he excel at Spurs, as not only will he represent great value for money, but he would also give Paratici an extra £10 million to work with should he choose to sign him instead of Tomiyasu.

For what Muldur lacks in the final third, he definitely makes up with his defensive ability, as he has shown throughout his time in the Serie A with his superb tackling and interception making ability.

The next few weeks at Hotspur Way are set to be very exciting for all involved with the club.
