Guedes offered to Spurs by agent Mendes

Before Nuno Espirito Santo’s appointment, lots of speculation surrounding his agent Jorge Mendes mounted as to whether or not he will try and use his influence to bring his clients with the former Wolves manager to Spurs.

Today, those initial rumours were seemingly confirmed as true, with Mendes reportedly attempting to persuade Fabio Paratici into making a move for Valencia forward Goncalo Guedes.

The former PSG star, who has scored six goals for Portugal since making his international debut, was also linked with the club as a potential summer arrival should Gennaro Gattuso have become the next Spurs manager, but protests from the fans quickly put to bed any chances of that happening.

The La Liga side have struggled financially due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and they are very keen to move on their most valuable stars in order to raise funds not just to bring in new faces, but also to make sure the club stay afloat more comfortably.

It’s not yet clear as to how much the Spanish club will be asking for, but with his valuation around £22.5 million according to Transfermarkt, it’s unlikely that the required fee will not be too much more than that, if at all.

At just 24-years-old, Guedes has shown his versatility and adaptability as he regularly fills in a number of different positions for Valencia when required upon, but in recent years he has spent most of his time playing on the left-wing.

Last season, he managed just five goals and five assists in 27 La Liga appearances for the Spanish club, but he will be desperate to bounce back from what was a very disappointing season.

Should he sign, Steven Bergwijn’s position at the club could be at risk – but reports have suggested that Nuno wants to keep him and feels that with a little confidence he could really become one of the best attackers in the league.

Lucas Moura and Erik Lamela are both expected to be offered to other clubs, while Jack Clarke could be set for another loan move away and Carlos Vinicius will not be returning after his loan spell from Benfica ended.
