Rodon joins Rennes

|

Spurs have confirmed Welsh centre-back Joe Rodon’s departure to Rennes on a season-long loan deal. This confirmation comes as no surprise, as talk of this deal had arisen as early as Thursday night, with talk of Rodon’s departure in general commencing pretty much as soon as he joined the club in October 2020.

As previously reported, the Ligue 1 outfit have the option of converting this temporary deal into a permanent one for around £17 million should they and the player wish to do so. A long way to go yet before that decision is made – indeed, both Rennes and Rodon have a whole season to make their mind up, that is unless we decide to persist with him or another suitor comes in that tickles his fancy.

Rennes commence their domestic campaign the same weekend that we do, hosting Lorient the day after we face Southampton, but that may come a tad too early for a player who’s had limited pre-season action due to illness and international involvement with Wales.

Indeed, with November’s World Cup gradually approaching, Rodon seems to have prioritised first-team action above all else in the hope of securing a spot on the plane to Qatar, as it wouldn’t be unreasonable for one to assume that he’d have had domestic suitors a-plenty prior to jetting off to France. Chapeau to him, and all the best – I don’t know a great deal about Rennes’ centre-back situation but I doubt Rodon would have joined them if he wasn’t guaranteed regular minutes.

    We hardly knew ye, Joe.

123, no N’dembele? he’s the one we want gone, but who would want him now. His repuation is lower than being down low. Talent enough, attitude all wrong.

Moura will stay and play wing back. I wouldn’t mind to see him go, though.

Royal has been out of position since arriving.

Sess has regressed since arriving. Value dropping.

Winks? he looked okay when he started to play, but hasn’t progressed.

doh? there’s still hope for him. He had some good appearances last season.

Sanchez? ups and downs since arrival. He can go and do better elsewhere. Just wasn’t in the cards for him here.

TK agree with your observations there. Add Lo Celso to N’dombele. Both will have to be given away but we need them off our books pronto. Both a total waste of wages.
Winks is only Championship material and made no progress. Far too safe and tippy tappy.
Hopefully, all these will be gone very soon. Might get enough in sales to by one more player. They must go.

Remember peops, we can only get rid/sell, if the player agree’s, they can sit on their contracts until it all done, then move on a free, player’s rule now, sorry. COYS

Pompey..it’s also a problem because of Levy who always expects top transfer away fees when players have shown their value has dropped considerably. We have made some dreadful signings in the past couple of years including Emerson Royal, Lo Celso, N’Dombele, Doherty, (Bergwijn). Luckily the latter has gone but we are struggling to offload the others. Time to show them the door with Winks and Sessegnon. We can do so much better than this bunch.

    • PompeyYid says:

ww, I don’t disagree with you there.

The only way players will leave if they don’t want to leave, is for free!

But then Levy will still have to pay them sort of compo, when ripping up their existing contract, which by the way has to be agreed by both parties.

Modern pro footballer’s have clubs by the short n curlies, simple as that! COYS

TK. I thought my observations/ criticisms were spot on. None of the aforementioned players were or are good enough to enhance our squad. It may be harsh and brutal but accepting mediocrity is not Conte’s way. So get rid all of the above and aim higher.

  • TK says:

Emerson Royal is being asked to play on the wing, but he’s never done that before. Give the man a break.

Doherty has played fairly well on the wing, and I’m sure Conte would like him healthy so he could play there.

Bergwijn I wish well. He cartainly wasn’t dreadful, although you were usng that adjective to describe his signing, not his play.

N’Dombele? Now that indeed was a dreadful signing. Great talent but horrible attitude. He seems to think the good things in life come free.

Lo Celso? A mystery to me. How can an athlete flop about as he does at times.

Sessegnon still might come okay. He shows skills at times, but why doesn’t he improve with time? A true frustration. It seemed so promising when he arrived from the craven bunch on the other side of town,

Winks? Nothing much to say about this one.

Every signing is a toss of the coin, of course. Just like a new son or daughter in law. You never know what you’ve got until it’s too late to undo. We can only hope each time. There must be a couple of new signings this season that we can moan about in a year or two,

  • TK says:

By the way, if THFC found a way not to pay existing contracts because of failed expectations, we’d never find any new players willing to sign with us. when a player signs a contract, they expect to receive the salaries agreed upon even if injuries etc keep them from performing at the expected level. Player who don’t care enough to try to meet expectations, like Ndombele? He’ll not get another contract again from any club now that he’s outed himself as a piker (in the aussie and NZ sense).

Is there going to be a SOTS match thread Omar?

If there is already one, sorry but I cannot find it. COYS

Sorry Pompey, been having trouble logging in all week and just sorted it now. I’ll do an article on team news and another few on transfer rumours, then put up a thread for Saints tonight mate
