Report: Tottenham still showing interest in 25 y/o Zlatan-esque striker available for £17m

Tottenham are reportedly still interested in Fenerbahce striker Vedat Muriqi following months of speculation surrounding the 25-year-old attacker.

Aksam report via Sport Witness that Spurs have made enquiries for the Kosovo international that has been on their radar for some time, with Football London covering the north London side’s interest in Muriqi as far back as September.

Will Tottenham be active in the January window?

Yes! We have to be!

No! Daniel Levy won't spend

With the seven goals in 11 appearances this season for the Turkish giants in the league as well as scoring important goals for Kosovo that has sent the tiny Balkan nation to the play-off phase for EURO 2020 qualification as stats from Transfermarkt show, Muriqi has made a fairly good name for himself this campaign.

And with Fenerbahce valuing the striker at a reported €20m (£17m) per the Aksam report as well as Kosovar media comparing Muriqi to former PSG and AC Milan star Zlatan Ibrahimovic as mentioned in the Football London summary, the 25-year-old attacker is a player that is well and truly on the up, but would the striker be a good fit for Tottenham?

Spurs lack of depth at striker this season has been a hot-button issue with supporters, with squad charts from Transfermarkt showing that Harry Kane is the club’s only natural first-team centre-forward, and although Muriqi could be a great backup option for Mauricio Pochettino’s side, the move wouldn’t make much sense from the point of view of the attacker in question.

With Muriqi playing regular first-team minutes with one of the biggest clubs in eastern Europe per Transfermarkt as well as the most important international game of his career over the horizon, a move to a club where the 25-year-old will realistically be second-fiddle to one of the best strikers in world football could be seen as a step back for the Fenerbahce forward.

With Troy Parrott also on Tottenham’s books as a potential star for the future as a striker, a move for Muriqi is a transfer that could be seen as another roadblock for the 17-year-old Irish international as well something that could halt the Kosovo international’s development as an attacker finding his groove.
