Report: Tottenham interested in midfielder, could cost £40m and £2m in wages to sign

|

According to the Daily Star, Tottenham are interested in Youri Tielemans and will battle Arsenal for the midfielder’s signature. Tielemans is currently on loan at Leicester City and has been outstanding for the Foxes this season. The 21-year-old has an uncertain future as numerous clubs line up for his signature, but Tottenham could win the transfer race if they secure Champions League football.

Tielemans struggled at Monaco but has found a new lease for life at Leicester. He’s made 11 Premier League appearances, scoring and creating seven goals, making 16 chances, 10 successful dribbles (63%), 53 passes-per-game with 85% accuracy and 15 tackles. It’s no surprise he’s also being linked with the likes of Manchester United.

Leicester are desperate to turn his loan deal permanent this summer, but he has no buying option attached to his contract and is unlikely to turn down a top-six club to stay at the King Power Stadium. The Daily Star say Tottenham will have to pay around £40m and match his £2m-a-year/£38k-per-week wages to bring Tielemans to London.

Despite initially failing upon his arrival at Monaco, his form in England may give the Ligue 1 side pause for thought this summer. Time will tell where Tielemans plays next season.
