Explained: Tottenham may have to pay £34m and £2m wages to sign midfielder

|

According to HLN (h/t Sport Witness), Tottenham are interested in Youri Tielemans and could rival both Leicester City and Manchester United to procure his signature this summer. The 21-year-old has impressed on loan at Leicester since moving from AS Monaco in January and could be available for a permanent transfer if his asking price is met.

Reports state Monaco are looking for £34m which would land them a £13m profit just one year after signing him. FIFA say he earns around £2m-a-year/£40k-per-week for the French outfit. Leicester are believed to be in talks with Tielemans over turning his loan deal permanent, but United also have a need for the midfielder after Ander Herrera agreed a deal to join Paris Saint-Germain over the summer.

It means Tottenham have stiff competition to bring the 21-year-old to London, and his form in the Premier League shows he’d be a big loss to Mauricio Pochettino if they didn’t get him. Tielemans has made seven appearances for Leicester, scoring and creating four goals, creating 12 chances, making six successful dribbles (67%), 51 passes-per-game with 85% accuracy and nine tackles.

He has all the attributes to be a useful player for Spurs, but he won’t come cheap.
