Report: Midfielder has uncertain Tottenham future, overseas move ‘looks on the cards’

|

Marcus Edwards is on the periphery at Tottenham and has an uncertain future under Mauricio Pochettino. The 20-year-old has made just one appearance in the first-team and finds himself behind the likes of Heung-min Son, Erik Lamela and Lucas Moura in the pecking order.

According to Alasdair Gold of Football.London, Edwards could be on his way out this summer and a move overseas ‘looks on the cards’. The England u20 international has impressed for the u19s (eight appearances, nine goals/assists) & u23s (28 appearances, 17 goals/assists), but hasn’t done enough to earn an opportunity at senior level.

Edwards’ lack of minutes for Spurs has led to him spending time on loan at Norwich City (January 15, 2018 – April 11, 2018) and Excelsior Rotterdam (August 30, 2018 – June 30, 2019). He impressed in Holland, contributing six goals in 28 games, and may need another temporary switch away to continue his development.

He’s not able to join a side in the Premier League or Championship as the transfer window is shut, but Edwards can be signed by clubs in Europe until September 2. Tottenham surely won’t stand in his way if a suitor makes an approach, but there have been no offers put to the Lilywhites.
