Report: Carlos Soler transfer update

|

Tottenham have been linked with a move for Carlos Soler, with Mauricio Pochettino eyeing a midfielder to strengthen his options in the engine room. After the sale of Mousa Dembele to Guangzhou R&F and Vincent Wanyama having struggled for form, fitness and playing time, Spurs need a replacement in the transfer market.

Soler won’t come cheap, however, with Capology valuing the midfielder at £30m. He would likely want a salary increase from £0.85m-per-year too. Pochettino is expected to sign at least one central player when the campaign comes to a close, but whether that will be the former Spanish u21 international remains to be seen.

He’s made 38 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring and creating 10 goals. The 22-year-old has created 26 chances, made 31 passes with 79.4% accuracy, averages a tackle (30) or interception (11) every 43 minutes and has made 19 successful dribbles. Soler may not retain possession enough to be in the Tottenham midfield, however.

Dembele seldom gave the ball away and made considerably more interceptions for the Londoners. Soler has been dribbled past 40 times in 22 Liga appearances, so Pochettino could overlook him for a player who will protect the backline.
