“Really Not Normal” – Another Messi Moment For Spurs Youngster

|

When Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino made a passing reference to Lionel Messi when discussing Academy graduate Marcus Edwards a few years back, it certainly pricked up ears in the fanbase.

Sadly since then the 20-year-old hasn’t really justified that type of comparison – albeit granted Poch was making a point, not calling him the next Messi – but it’s a comparison that has dogged the youngster.

These Spurs Fans Think This Improving Youngster Is Our “Jadon Sancho”

With Edwards really beginning to find his feet out with Dutch Eredivisie side Excelsior now following his loan switch, he has two goals in the last five games for them and he put in another solid performance in their game against FC Emmen, finding the net and helping himself to an assist.

Teammate Jeffrey Fortes was speaking to Voetbal International following the game and he had an interesting choice of words to describe what he’s seen from the lad, both on and off the pitch.

“He is of a bizarre level, what he can do is really not normal. I have not experienced a better player in my career, and Mauricio Pochettino did not make that comparison with Messi for nothing.”

With him gaining this type of praise again, hopefully he kicks on from this and becomes the player many felt he would all those years ago.
