Realistic expectations for Spurs this season?

I love Spurs, always will and am as happy as anyone to see us linked with the likes of Bentley and Van Nistlerooy and exited to see players such as Modric and Dos Santos coming to our club but with so many Links to players and money being spent in areas that this time last year I never dreamed we would need. I have to ask..

What are our realistic expectations for next season?

When Martin Jol was replaced, how many of you really believed that a complete squad change would be necessary?

This time two years ago we were everybody’s tip to be the team to break the big four where as now i would consider 3 or 4 teams to be ahead of us. It’s no good us claiming to have better players than the likes of Everton, Villa, Portsmouth etc because that’s obviously not what it’s all about.

To be a respected and successful team you have to maintain a consistency and a team spirit that with such constant change is impossible! I hate to keep using Everton as an example but under David Moyes things at their club certainly got a lot worse a few years ago before they got better and if a realistic time span for a manager to create success is 5 years then you give them 5 years.

Every year we see Alex Ferguson making just as much effort to keep the likes of Wes Brown and John O’shea under contract at his club as he is to add two or three big names. If we are ever in a position to do this, that is when I will be at my most optimistic.

I’m not being negative and am more hopeful than ever that we may of found the right manager but rather than spending the summer anticipating big money signings I am looking forward to the time when we have a summer without letting go of our main players and only needing to add one or two more!
