Tottenham look likely to miss out on another reported target after German Striker Lukas Podolski confirmed he would like to return to his first club Cologne.

Podolski told Sportbild: ‘I of course know about enquiries from abroad, which are very attractive from a sporting point of view. But Cologne would be for me a matter of the heart.

‘I feel good there and have family there. The birth of my son also comes into the equation. I believe Bayern understand that.’


Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said: ‘His agent has advised us that he would like to leave the club (Bayern) and his preference is for Cologne.

‘It is therefore surely logical that we look around for a replacement.’


With this replavement looking likely to be his German team mate Mario Gomez, Podolski looks certain to leave Bayern. with Cologne, who have just been promoted back to the Bundesliga last season, now strong favourates, ‘if’ they can match the asking price, which would be far less of a problem for Spurs, Manchester City ot Juventus to meet, plus they could also offer far better personal terms, though reading Pololski’s words this may not be his main priority.
