Tottenham Hotspur fans had plenty of reasons for delight on Tuesday evening as we faced Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League group clash, and with a solid 5-0 victory under our belts it should certainly help confidence as we go into this weekend’s Premier League clash with Liverpool.
Braces from Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min, along with a solo effort from Erik Lamela should certainly lift spirits, but, everyone knows that in form Liverpool will be a far tougher test than our European opposition so nobody should be getting carried away just yet.
But we did need something to cheer.
Former striker Darren Bent has been giving his thoughts ahead of the game to Football Insider and with plenty of fans split when it comes to Christian Eriksen’s form this year, Bent believes he should be recalled for this one to provide us with an additional creative spark in midfield.
“I just worry when Spurs play with that midfield of Ndombele and Sissoko and maybe one like Dele Alli in front of them, yeah they look solid, I just worry about creativity. I think you need something a little bit more. When you come up against better opposition I know it’s good not to get beat and you want it solid but I would still like to see a little bit more creativity on the pitch. This weekend I think they’re going to need to find a way of getting Dele Alli on the pitch and Christian Eriksen. When you’ve got those two players on the pitch and Heung-min Son and Harry Kane, I think the balance is a lot better and you get a lot more creativity.”
Bent will certainly have his supporters here, and manager Mauricio Pochettino will definitely have his own thoughts on the lineup, but with an improved performance, should we really be changing the team – and creativity aside – we need to be tight and solid in this one.
