Predicted: Pochettino may drop Tottenham trio vs Ajax, defender & midfielder could return

|

Mauricio Pochettino could drop Ben Davies and Juan Foyth against Ajax, with Danny Rose and Kieran Trippier expected to get the nod at left-back and right-back respectively. Jan Vertonghen and Moussa Sissoko could return to the starting lineup, with the pair back in training ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League clash. Fernando Llorente should lead the line in Heung-min Son’s absence.

Hugo Lloris should keep his place between the sticks, but he may have a different centre-back paring ahead of him. Toby Alderweireld partnered Davinson Sanchez in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to West Ham, but Vertonghen could replace Sanchez if he’s passed fit. Victor Wanyama may be in line to start if Sissoko doesn’t make the starting lineup but having the Kenyan and Eric Dier in midfield together might be too negative.

Llorente is a cert to lead the line as Tottenham don’t have another available forward with a physical presence. Vincent Janssen would have likely made the bench had he been registered, but Pochettino will have to scrap the barrel for attacking substitutes on Tuesday. Lucas Moura could partner Llorente in attack, as he’ll provide the pace to get on to his teammate’s flicks and knock-downs.

Predicted XI to face Ajax: Hugo Lloris; Kieran Trippier, Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen, Danny Rose; Eric Dier, Moussa Sissoko, Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli; Lucas Moura, Fernando Llorente.
