Opinion: Defensive-midfielder could leave Tottenham

|

Eric Dier has an uncertain future at Tottenham. The 25-year-old has struggled for form and fitness this season and Football Insider believe Mauricio Pochettino would considering selling him for the right price. Dier has made 25 appearances in all competitions, but only eight of them have come in 2019.

The England international last three Premier League appearances have ended in defeat – 1-2 vs Southampton (March 9), 0-1 vs Manchester City (April 20), 0-1 West Ham United (April 27) – and he hasn’t won a game that he started in since the turn of the year.

United were heavily linked with Dier in 2017 but no deal materialised. It appears the Red Devils could make another approach, however, as they’re looking to bolster their midfield. Ander Herrera looks on his way out of Old Trafford this summer and will need replacing.

Dier is combative, composed in possession and versatile – able to play in defence and midfield. He’s made 206 appearances in all competitions since joining Tottenham from Sporting CP in 2014, highlighting how often he’s been utilised by Mauricio Pochettino in the last five years.

Whether Spurs do want to sell him remains to be seen, but Football Insider do believe Pochettino’s considering it which will be music to United’s ears.
