Player ratings: Spurs 1-2 Liverpool

|

Two first-half Liverpool goals left Spurs with too much to do in the second half, falling too their second consecutive home loss. This is how the players ranked:

Manager Rating- 5

Thought Conte should have made his changes at half-time; it was blatantly clear we needed more thrust in the attacking third. Should have brought Moura on earlier.

Hugo Lloris- 6

Made a few decent saves to keep Spurs in the game. Could not do much more for Salah’s two goals.

Emerson Royal- 5

Done well defensively, but when Spurs needed that quality in the final third- the Brazilian yet again could not provide it.

Eric Dier- 5

A think Dier will struggle to sleep tonight following his howler in the first half. Mistakes like that simply cannot happen if Spurs are to achieve anything this season. However, the centre half did improve after his mistake.

Clement Lenglet- 6

Marshalled Firmino pretty well, keeping him quiet for the majority of the game. However, he should have scored late in the game.

Ben Davies- 6

Was mainly solid but he did leave Salah alone in the box for the first goal. Improved as the game went on.

Ryan Sessegnon- 5

Trent-Alexander Arnold was there for the taking today, but Sess yet again could not provide the goods.

Yves Bissouma- 8 (MOTM)

Spurs’ MOTM today. Was by far his best performance in a Spurs shirt. Won the ball back numerous times, stopping multiple Liverpool counter attacks.

Rodrigo Bentancur- 7

Close candidate to being Tottenham’s best player. Was unlucky to grab himself a goal, inches away from scoring with a header.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg- 6

Worked his socks off and tried his best to create from deep. But he could not provide the killer pass.

Ivan Perisic- 6

Should have scored twice. Did what he could as a make-shift striker. Was much better once he switched over to wing-back.

Harry Kane- 7

Excellent finish from the England skipper, for his goal. He did struggle playing up top without runners in front of him. Much more comfortable when Kulusevski came on.

Subs:

Dejan Kulusevski- 6

Matt Doherty- 5

Lucas Moura- 5

Doesn’t matter if Dier improved after the break. His mistakes he makes every game will always hurt us one way or another. Questions have to be asked on who decided that the likes of Dier, Sessegnon, Davies and Sanchez would be good enough for our defence this season. These are players who were 2nd string in Poch’s reign that are still here. This defence needs major surgery, not only to actually make the defending better, but also the distribution.
