Opinion: Wantaway Spurs man can still turn things around if he carries himself well

|

Christian Eriksen claimed that he wants to leave Spurs, as reported by The Guardian in June, but it is imperative he carries himself well while he is still a Tottenham player.

He wasn’t among the group which returned to pre-season on Monday, as he was afforded an extra break after representing Denmark in European Championship qualifiers during the summer.

There have been links to Real Madrid and Juventus, as reported by The Guardian, but there is no guarantee he will get a move to either, so he should turn up and knuckle down in training for his own sake.

Both of the clubs who are linked with Eriksen also reportedly want Paul Pogba – who is higher on each side’s want list than the Spurs man.

With the Dane’s contract expiring next summer, there is some debate among Spurs fans about whether he should be allowed to stay and potentially leave on a free.

However, the reality is, if no club is willing to pay a price that is deemed suitable, he will likely stay – at least until January – so it is worth ensuring he is actually usable if he does remain at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

He should take notes from the man he is potentially battling for a move, as despite often being criticised for his attitude, Pogba has gone on Manchester United’s tour without any fuss having previously claimed he wants a new challenge.

Meanwhile, Antoine Griezmann and Neymar have failed to turn up to pre-season for Atletico Madrid and PSG respectively, as they try to force through moves to Barcelona, according to Sky Sports.

Considering there are no assurances that Eriksen can actually get a move to one of his favoured clubs, he would be silly to follow their example.

Ideally, Spurs will sell Eriksen if he continues to refuse a new contract, though things can be turned around if he turns up to pre-season training and puts in effort.
