Opinion: Tottenham’s struggles will only continue on Sunday if they don’t marshal key man

|

After losing 2-1 to Liverpool on Merseyside, Tottenham have got the chance to put things right by recording a win in the same city they fell to defeat in last week as they face Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday.

It’s not going to be an easy game by any stretch, and the Toffees have certainly got plenty of threats all over the pitch. Creatively, Lucas Digne and Gylfi Sigurdsson have averaged 2.4 and 2.2 key passes per game, whilst Bernard and Alex Iwobi have both proven to bring goals, with two and one respectively (WhoScored).

However, one man that really needs to be watched and is undoubtedly one of the stars of this Marco Silva side is both creative and a goal threat. The Brazilian ex-Watford man Richarlison is who we’re pinning as the one for Tottenham to marshal carefully, and it’s easy to see why.

At the age of just 22-years-old, he still has plenty to learn and add to his game, however, the attacker has bagged twice and assisted twice in the league this season for the Toffees, and he’s got a good chance of making prolonging the Lilywhites misery with a strong display on the weekend.

In midweek action it was Richarlison who bagged one of Silva’s side’s two goals as they brushed Watford aside winning 2-0 at Goodison Park to set themselves up for a Carabao Cup quarter-final tie, and he could well continue his run on the weekend.

Given Spurs’ defensive woes this season it will be an added incentive for Richarlison to show what he can dom and if he gets the chance to get at any of Mauricio Pochettino’s full-backs then it could mean trouble for the travelling side.

However, should the likes of Toby Alderweireld, Davinson Sanchez and co at the back hold their own and avoid any defensive lapses then holding off the Everton man will be made a lot more manageable, it’s just up to Poch to set up and deny the Brazilian the chance to add to his problems.
