Opinion: Tottenham won’t sign out-of-form Juventus forward to replace Eriksen

|

According to Calciomercato, Tottenham are interested in Douglas Costa and could sign him as a replacement for Christian Eriksen at the end of the season. However, we’ve played down the chances of Eriksen leaving to join Real Madrid, so it’s hard to see Spurs signing Costa in his stead.

The Juventus forward has been short of form since turning his loan deal from Bayern Munich permanent last summer, scoring and creating only three goals in 17 Serie A appearances. He’s only racked up 618 minutes of league football this season and is no longer guaranteed a starting place, but he may not be moved on so soon.

Costa wouldn’t be a priority signing for Tottenham either, as Mauricio Pochettino has Heung-min Son, Eriksen, Erik Lamela and Lucas Moura at his disposal. Tottenham have a fervent need to bolster their midfield options rather than the attack, so they could avoid making an approach for the Brazilian international.

His form has also been so poor that it wouldn’t make much sense procuring his signature. Costa is valued by CIES at £40m which may be too steep for the Londoners anyway.
