According to AS, Real Madrid will turn their attentions elsewhere from Christian Eriksen, which is fantastic news for Tottenham and Mauricio Pochettino. The 26-year-old’s future has been in doubt, but he appears set to stay in London at least until 2020 as his reported suitors may not be able to afford him.
It’s hard to see Eriksen leaving for Real as the Danish international wouldn’t come cheap and Chelsea’s Eden Hazard looks on his way to the Santiago Bernabeu instead. The Belgian international could be on the move when the season comes to a close, so the Spanish giants wouldn’t have the money to sign Eriksen on top of that.
Tottenham certainly wouldn’t let the in-form forward go without a fight either, with Eriksen scoring 62 goals in 257 appearances since joining the club from Ajax in 2013. He’s been a fantastic servant in the five-and-a-half years that followed and could be in line for a significant payrise to help him commit his future to Spurs.
This season, Eriksen has contributed 12 goals in 17 Premier League starts, in addition to making 42 chances. He’s scored and created five goals in his last eight league outings and is indispensable to Pochettino, so a departure will not be on the cards in the coming months.
