Opinion: Tottenham duo simply have to feature during Champions League clash

|

Tottenham fans will have enjoyed seeing both Giovani Lo Celso and Ryan Sessegnon on the pitch at Goodison Park when the final whistle blew on Sunday, as the pair have finally got back to fitness and are in the side and ready to make their mark after their summer moves to the club.

Both Lo Celso and Sessegnon made the switch to Tottenham on deadline day of the summer transfer window (BBC), with Sessegnon signing for £25m whilst Lo Celso came in on-loan. Now, though, it’s time they showed why the Lilywhites made the moves to bring them in.

Later tonight both of the new boys will be in Serbia and will likely be in the matchday squad as Tottenham travel to the Marakana to take on Crvena Zvezda in their fourth Champions League clash of the season. So far in Europe, it’s been an inconsistent campaign from Spurs, but tonight can be where that changes.

An away draw to Olympiacos before a huge home loss to Bayern Munich was then evened out by a 5-0 win over Red Star, and should the Lilywhites win again tonight and Bayern beat Olympiacos at the Allianz then the Lilywhites will go four points clear of 3rd in their group and put one foot in the round of 16.

Part of what a lot of fans loved about their previous 5-0 win over Red Star was the fact that Mauricio Pochettino only used one of the club’s wantaway contract rebels, with Toby Alderweireld the only player of those in the last year of their contracts to feature.

Should Giovani Lo Celso and Ryan Sessegnon start tonight?

Definitely! Give them minutes

Not yet, maybe off the bench

Poch can now win the fans over again if he goes with a similar squad to that last game. Sessegnon and Lo Celso may not be ready to feature for the club from the very start, but they should definitely be given a run out during the clash, even if it just from the bench.
