Opinion: Spurs midfielder’s career in N17 is over

|

Tottenham Hotspur lost away from home in the Premier League once again.

This time they fell to a 2-1 defeat at Leicester City and Spurs’ hopeless away record continues.

Tottenham had a goal disallowed by VAR for offside – when they were 1-0 up, but they didn’t play well enough to deserve a win.

Mauricio Pochettino also decided this would be the perfect time to bring Victor Wanyama back into the fold and he proved why he should leave the club as soon as he can.

The former Southampton man was at fault for the winning goal by first giving the ball away and then failing to close James Maddison down – who smashed in a fabulous strike to give the Foxes the win.

Wanyama also picked up a yellow card and looked slow and sluggish.

The decline of Wanyama at Tottenham is a sad tale – as at one point the partnership he formed with Mousa Dembele was seen as one of the Premier League’s best.

Unfortunately, a serious knee injury halted his development, and since then, he has struggled to establish himself in the team.

Wanyama was once one of the league’s best defensive midfielders charging around the pitch and winning the ball back for his side.

Saturday, though, showed the decline of Wanyama in full view and it was not pretty to watch.

The Kenyan looked out of his depth at times, and I think it is time for him to move on and try to reignite his career somewhere else.

Considering he is still only 28, he should have a good few years left in him – just not in the Premier League and certainly not with Spurs.
