Opinion: Saturday showing was the first signing that Poch fringe man can be Tottenham star under Jose

|

The first starting eleven Tottenham Hotspur opted for post-Mauricio Pochettino was one that a lot fans were eagerly waiting for, and whilst it didn’t throw up too many surprises, there were a few players in there that may not have featured had Poch still been in charge.

One of those who would likely have been left out had Daniel Levy not pulled the trigger on Poch and brought in Jose Mourinho is a man who gave the Lilywhites possibly the best moment in their football supporting lives in the Brazilian Lucas Moura.

The former PSG man, fresh from his first full season at Tottenham in 2018/19, hasn’t played a lot so far this season, yet against West Ham he started, scored and shone in what was just his fifth Premier League start of the season (Transfermarkt), and now it looks like he could be set to star in this side.

Mourinho started with Heung-Min Son, Dele Alli and Lucas in a three-man attacking midfield unit behind Harry Kane, although when in possession and attacking, Serge Aurier got as far forward as he could and created what was effectively a five-man attack at times.

From left to right: Son, Dele, Kane, Lucas and Aurier was that line, and they pulled West Ham to pieces, with width, incision and precision, smashing the Hammers off the park in the first hour or so, with Lucas bagging the second of the three goals that they bagged against the lacking Irons.

Can Mourinho one day win us a Premier League title?

Absolutely, he's a winner

No way, we're still Tottenham

It looks like the Lilywhites could be set to see ore of Lucas in this setup, coming into a narrow attacking position despite starting out wide right, allowing room for Aurier to bomb on and bringing the direct dribbling and pace that the Brazilian possesses into central areas and bringing the best out of the 27-year-old.
