Opinion: Out-of-favour Tottenham man has uncertain future, struggling for form in 2019

|

Lucas Moura was a late introduction in Tottenham’s 2-1 defeat to Burnley, racking up just two minutes of playing time from the bench after replacing Heung-min Son. The 26-year-old unsurprisingly made little to no impact at Turf Moor – two touches and two passes – which has been a common occurrence in 2019.

Moura joined Tottenham from Paris Saint-Germain in January 2018 and has gone on to make 45 appearances in all competitions, scoring nine goals. The Brazilian international was underwhelming in his debut season (11 appearances, one goal, one assist) but impressed early into his first full campaign with three goals in his first three appearances.

The talented winger has struggled ever since, however, netting only three goals in the 19 games that followed. Moura has failed to make an assist all season too and has recently lost his place as a result of his poor form. He started in 12 consecutive league games at the beginning of the season but has managed only one since Boxing Day 2018.

Moura has created just three chances in his last 11 appearances while taking only five shots in eight games. He’s scored just once in the last 12 weeks and may have an uncertain future at Tottenham unless things improve.
