Opinion: Spurs could miss out on transfer-target, Pochettino won’t pay £46m for £66k-per-week man

|

According to Tuttosport (h/t Sport Witness), Tottenham are still interested in Ivan Perisic but look less likely to procure his signature as he’s become an important player for Inter Milan.

While Mauro Icardi’s future remains uncertain at the San Siro, Perisic is vital to providing creativity and an attacking threat from out wide. He’s contributed six goals in 18 Serie A starts, creating 33 chances and whipping in 109 crosses.

The 30-year-old would be a good addition to the Tottenham side, but there’s little value in signing Perisic. Inter won’t sell him for cheap as he’s a key player and one of the first names on the teamsheet, while Spurs may have enough in attack with Christian Eriksen, Lucas Moura, Erik Lamela and Heung-min Son.

Unless an existing player was sold, it’s unlikely Tottenham will add to their forward ranks. Pochettino could focus more on recruiting a centre-back and central midfielder when the summer transfer market opens.

Inter paid around £17m for the winger who is currently worth £46m with CIES – a price Spurs would never pay for a 30-year-old. Perisic earns £66k-per-week at the San Siro and would likely require a payrise to accept a deal. He won’t be coming to Tottenham.
