Opinion: Moving on from big-money man would make little sense for Tottenham Hotspur

|

Tottenham and Tanguy Ndombele have had a strange relationship so far. The French midfielder is the club’s record buy having cost £53.8m from Lyon (BBC), yet things haven’t gone to plan for him, and he’s made the headlines for the wrong reasons in recent months, with even Jose Mourinho slating him (BBC).

However, cutting ties with the former Lyon man this summer is not the way forward for the Lilywhites, and patience is going to be absolutely key during getting him properly up to speed, something that Matt Davies has also eluded to in The Evening Standard.

The signs are all there for Ndombele, though, His underlying stats when he has played have been more than impressive, and it’s clear as day when you watch just him during games that he’s a cut above most players as he glides around the pitch finding neat passes linking together midfield and attack.

In the Premier League this season, Ndombele has both scored and assisted twice, whilst also averaging 2 dribbles and 0.6 key passes per match, as well as winning 1.5 fouls per game too as he’s slowly started the adaptation to the English game (WhoScored).

Undoubtedly, the best of Ndombele is yet to come in a Spurs shirt, but the signs are there that the Lilywhites have a very talented player on their hands, and if there’s ever been a time for patience then it’s now, as a midfield three of Harry Winks, Giovani Lo Celso and Ndombele is the stuff of Tottenham supporters’ dreams.

Will Tottenham sell Tanguy Ndombele?

Yes

No

Whatever does happen with Ndombele at his young age, he has a bright future in football, and as difficult as it will be for the Frenchman to get to fitness and become a part of Jose Mourinho’s plans, he has the ability to do it, despite the negative headlines and the media attention he’s received so far.
