Opinion: Midfielder has uncertain Tottenham future, Mauricio Pochettino losing faith in him?

Eric Dier could have an uncertain future at Tottenham this summer after falling down the pecking order under Mauricio Pochettino. The 25-year-old was a regular for Spurs during the first-half of the season, but injury problems have eaten away at his appearances and he’s been overlooked by Pochettino for important games in recent weeks.

In the Champions League, Dier was an unused substitute in both semi-final clashes with Ajax and has been subbed off in two of his last three Premier League appearances. Victor Wanyama has returned to the starting lineup and appears to have the trust of Pochettino over Dier. Moussa Sissoko has been a regular all season and is one of the first names on the teamsheet when fit.

The London Evening Standard said in April that Wanyama would be sold this summer, but he’s now keeping Dier out of the startling lineup. Dier’s performances have left a lot to be desired this season too, so it wouldn’t be a major surprise if Tottenham were willing to listen to offers for the England international.

The Lilywhites are expected to sign at least one midfielder this summer, which could open the door for an existing player to be sold.
