Opinion: Linked Bundesliga ace would be a real coup for Mourinho’s Tottenham

|

Tottenham fans will already be taking a look ahead to the summer window when they’re able to bring in new players, and it seems that the club are already having a look around Europe at some potential options, with one man they’ve seen closer than most on their shortlist.

That man is the Swedish midfield man Emil Forsberg. The RB Leipzig creative midfield man is a real talent, with eight goals and three assists in 23 games this season across the Bundesliga and Champions League for the high-flying Leipzig, even though only 15 of those games came as starts (WhoScored).

The rumours of Tottenham looking to try and sign the Swede come from German outlet BILD (via Sports Witness) and the report claims that the Lilywhites have been offered a chance to sign the 20m euro man from Leipzig, with Mourinho keen to do so as Forsberg’s time with the German side is coming to an end.

The report also states that new Leipzig gaffer Julian Nagelsmann isn’t so much of a fan of the player, and given his creative talents and ability to pop up with goals and assists from nowhere, if he does look to be finding a new club this summer, Tottenham are in need of a creative midfield man to fill the Christian Eriksen void.

So far in the 2019/20 season, when comparing Eriksen’s numbers in the Premier League to Forsberg’s in the Bundesliga, both players are averaging 1.2 key passes per game, although the Swede has managed more dribbles, been dispossessed less and won more fouls per game than Eriksen on top if the fact he’s scored three goals more and managed the number of assists in 296 fewer minutes (WhoScored).

Would you like to sign Emil Forsberg?

Yes

No

Obviously a lot has to happen for Forsberg to end up at Spurs, but this looks like a very smart move from the Lilywhites if Daniel Levy and Mourinho can make it happen, and with the Swede wanting out and Leipzig keen to sell him, every party can benefit from this summer sale.
