Gareth Bale has only just returned to Tottenham and he’s already injured

|

Tottenham have confirmed the signing of Gareth Bale on loan from Real Madrid, but Marca say he’ll be out of action for a month due to a knee injury.

Our medical team were aware of the 31-year-old’s injury before we made a move this summer and have determined he’ll return in around four weeks.

Here’s hoping this isn’t is sign of what is to come this season, but Bale’s injury history suggests it might be.

All the injuries Bale suffered at Real

2013/14

The Welsh international made 44/57 appearances in his debut season, missing 13 games due to ineligibility, calf problems and a spinal injury.

2014/15

He made 48/57 appearances in his second season, missing nine games due to a back problem and calf injury.

2015/16

Bale made 31/51 appearances in his third season, missing 20 games due to a muscle problem, back injury, calf issue and knee complaint.

2016/17

He made 27/60 appearances in his fourth season, missing 33 games due to a hip problem, ankle injury, calf muscle strain, suspension and another calf issue.

2017/18

The 31-year-old made 39/58 appearances in his fifth season, missing 19 games due to a calf injury and hamstring problem.

2018/19

Bale made 42/55 appearances in his sixth season, missing 13 games due to an adductor problem, ankle injury and calf issue.

2019/20

The Welshman made 20/40 appearances in his seventh season, missing 20 games due to a calf injury, thigh problem, an infection and a sprained ankle.

When could Bale make his debut?

Four weeks from now will be October 18. We’ll host West Ham United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on the 17th. A week later, we’ll travel face Burnley at Turf Moor. And a week after that, we’ll host Brighton & Hove Albion.

As long as Bale suffers no setbacks in his recovery, he could make the squad to that travels to Burnley. The West Ham clash may come too soon and Jose Mourinho won’t want to rush him back.

Bale will need to be managed carefully so he can last the season, as his muscle problems have kept him out for many weeks in the past.
