Opinion: Despite Tottenham fan’s dreams, 30yo winger would not make smart business this month

|

Tottenham fans have got a real affinity with Gareth Bale. The Welsh forward is one of those players who will always be a hero at Tottenham, but that doesn’t mean that the ex-Spurs man should make a return to north London, despite the fact the rumours are present at every transfer window.

This time around, as we have just ten days left of the transfer window, the supporters have been given the rumours of a potential Bale return from El Chiriniguito TV, as they’ve claimed on Twitter that in a recent meeting, Daniel Levy enquired about Bale’s availability to Florentino Perez.

However, as much as Tottenham fans will want this one to happen, it just does not make sense. The Lilywhites watching on will undoubtedly get caught up in the Bale hype and will be desperate to see their side snag the impressive Los Blancos man, but it just doesn’t mark good business.

Bale is now 30-years-old and with just two goals and two assists in his 12 La Liga appearances the season (Transfermarkt), his numbers are waning. Then there’s the slight issue of his wages, as his wages aren’t at all slight by any definition of the word.

The Welshman is supposedly earning around £350,000 per/week (Goal.com), and whilst the Lilywhites want to bring him back, they’ll have to fork out a transfer fee as well as some incredible wages, and that just doesn’t look like something Daniel Levy would do.

Should Jose Mourinho bring Gareth Bale home?

Yes

No

Whatever happens with Bale, the world will certainly watch on in awe, but it’s hard to see a way in which the Lilywhites can broker a deal for the 30-year-old that remains affordable and realistic, even if Bale’s talents would prove to be a huge boost for the north London side.
