One step forward: Three points for Spurs could finally put fate back into their hands – Opinion

|

It’s not often that a Premier League weekend can go so perfect for Tottenham, result-wise, but last week could prove to be a candidate.

A dramatic 3-2 win for Jose Mourinho’s side was followed the next day by Chelsea falling to a 2-0 loss to Manchester United, with VAR playing its role in the Blues dropping points against the Red Devils which saw the gap for fourth place close to just a single point, with Tottenham fixing their gaze on that position whilst sitting in fifth.

And with the two sides facing off against one another this weekend at Stamford Bridge, the outcome of this result could have drastic results in the race for the final Champions League spot, but for Tottenham, they have the privilege of going into this massive fixture with the majority of the pressure off their shoulders with Chelsea having the weight of their home supporters to bare when the teams walk out this afternoon.

Is Mourinho an out-dated manager?

Yes

No

And this is an advantage that Tottenham will have to seriously lean into with Mourinho not having a natural striker to call upon for today as well as Heung min-Son set to miss his first Premier League game since this week’s bombshell that the South Korean international will be out for several weeks as reported by the club’s official website.

Spurs have already shown in 2020 that they have what it takes on the top-six, as well, with Tottenham beating Manchester City convincingly as well as holding their own against Liverpool, whilst Chelsea have lost to the aforementioned Man United as well as threw away a 2-1 lead to draw with Arsenal.

Three points will be huge for Tottenham in their ever-growing test to qualify for next season’s Champions League, and Chelsea are seemingly there for the taking with the club in of their low points this season, something that Mourinho will be more than willing to take advantage of.
