“The guy is class” – A lot of Tottenham Hotspur fans are baffled by reports that Spurs will give Jan Vertonghen a new contract but are not prepared to make it any longer than 12 months.
The Belgian, 32, is into the last year of his contract, but he has expressed a strong desire to stay with Tottenham.
This will apparently lead to a new deal, but it would be no longer than a year as Tottenham are reluctant to hand out big contracts to players over the age of 30.
However, Spurs have just handed Moussa Sissoko a new four-year deal that will expire when he is 34.
If the report is true, then this is a strange stance taken by Tottenham on Vertonghen, and they should be doing all they can to seal the future of one of their best defenders.
Certainly, these Spurs fans are not happy with this report.

Just give him a 2 year deal in that time bring through youngsters + play foyth and sanchez and we’re golden jan goes off to ajax (maybe, i personally would love him to stay) and retires a year or so later

Vertonghen is quality and has been spurs best defender since king. He deserves as long as he wishes.
