One In & One Out For Tottenham, No Surprises Here But It Is An End Of An Era

|

As expected following the reports we all saw over the weekend, earlier this afternoon Tottenham Hotspur confirmed the official departure of Danish international midfielder Christian Eriksen to Inter Milan, and we also confirmed the arrival of Giovani Lo Celso on a permanent deal.

Eriksen’s future had long been in doubt given all the speculation we saw over the summer, and despite nothing coming of that ultimately, the fact we hit January without a new deal being signed, it was always a case of ensuring we got something back for the 27-year-old, even if it was significantly less than the sum we were originally holding out for.

Eriksen leaves with 305 appearances under his belt, with a return of 69 goals.

Having brought in Lo Celso from Real Betis over the summer, we always knew we had a buy option on the deal and manager Jose Mourinho had previously confirmed we would be taking up that option this month given how the 23-year-old had begun impressing in recent matches.

Two pieces of news that won’t exactly be a shock to anyone, but at least the Eriksen saga is now concluded. Whilst he has his detractors in more recent times, his time at White Hart Lane won’t be forgotten and there are certainly more positive memories than negative ones.

Few won’t wish him the best for the future.
