Official: What’s the latest on Giovani Lo Celso’s injury?

|

Tottenham have given an injury update on Giovani Lo Celso ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League clash, revealing that the midfielder is still ‘in the early stages of rehabilitation’. The 23-year-old was absent for Spurs’ 4-0 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday and has yet to start a game.

Lo Celso has only amassed 44 minutes of football since his move from Real Betis and may not be back in action before November – he suffered a hip injury while on international duty with Argentina.

The midfielder’s only appearances have come in the form of five minutes in a 2-2 draw with Manchester City (August 17), 28 minutes in a 1-0 defeat to Newcastle United (August 25) and 11 minutes in a 2-2 draw with Arsenal (September 1).

While a blow to lose a record-signing so early into their debut season, Mauricio Pochettino isn’t short on options in his absence. The Tottenham boss has Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen, Erik Lamela, Tanguy Ndombele, Harry Winks, Moussa Sissoko, Oliver Skipp, Vincent Wanyama and Eric Dier at his disposal.

Pochettino is using the Champions League group stages to rotate his squad, so he’ll have a plan in mind to replace Lo Celso.
