News: Tottenham stalwart makes surprise admission on where he wants to play

|

Ever since signing for Tottenham as a 20-year-old for just £4m (BBC), Eric Dier has played a major part for Spurs under both Mauricio Pochettino and Now Jose Mourinho, however, the ex-Sporting man has now made a surprise revelation over where he sees himself playing in the future.

Dier, now 26-years-old, has featured for the Lilywhites on 232 occasions, scoring 11 goals and registering 11 assists (Transfermarkt), although he’s played long spells as both a centre-back and as a defensive midfielder during his lengthy spell at the club.

This season alone we’ve seen Dier rack up 19 appearances in all competitions, with 14 of those coming at the base of midfield and five coming as a central defender (Transfermarkt), although after featuring as part of a back three against Wolves, Dier spoke to The Evening Standard and had his say on where he wants to be playing.

What is Eric Dier's best position?

Centre-back

Defensive midfield

The Spurs man was not at all indecisive in his comments as he stated that he sees himself as a central-defender going forward. He claimed that playing in defence is his best position and that he’s now at a stage in his career that he wants to be playing in what he views is his strongest area.

You can see Dier’s comments in full here:

‘That’s [centre-back] the position I see myself playing, that’s where I see my future.’

‘I was happy to be able to play and it’s obviously very nice of the manager speaking that way about me. Obviously, the most important thing is the team to win games and we haven’t done that.’

‘I have always been very politically correct on the subject because of many different reasons, but I’ve come to a decision. It’s been something that isn’t new for me.’

‘The old manager knew where I stood for a long time about my position and centre-back is where I see my future and I think where I can be the best I can be.’

‘With Pochettino, I started to play there this season, in the two games before he left, and I’m happy I got the chance to play there under Mourinho.’

‘I always knew it would happen eventually. With Pochettino, we spoke about it over many years, not just this year. The most important thing is the team, what the team needs from its players at that time.’

‘But now I’m at a stage in my career where I want to be playing in my best position. That’s it, really.’
