Mourinho set to battle four top clubs in race for unsettled Spurs target – Report

|

According to a report from Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Tottenham have joined the race to sign unsettled Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic in the summer – with manager Jose Mourinho taking a particular interest in the player who could ‘reinforce‘ our midfield.

Rakitic, who has started just 10 La Liga games for the Catalans this season, making most of his appearances off the bench, is reportedly tired of being treated like a ‘sack of potatoes‘ – potentially motivating Mourinho to take advantage of his unrest at the Nou Camp.

Should Spurs sign Rakitic?

Still has plenty to offer

Look elsewhere

Despite not starting on a consistently regular basis this season, the Croatia international has bagged three league assists in the time he has played whilst registering an 88.3% pass accuracy according to WhoScored – highlighting the fact he could still have more to offer in the Premier League despite approaching his twilight years.

The 32-year-old, who impressed for his country at the 2018 World Cup almost two years ago alongside former Spurs star Luka Modric, is highly sought-after according to this report – with Mourinho potentially having to battle Sevilla, Atletico Madrid, Juventus and Napoli for Rakitic’s signature.

Indeed, despite four top European clubs being in the running, that reportedly hasn’t deterred our gaffer who asked the Spurs board to consider a summer bid.

Rakitic has two years left on his current deal, but given his apparent unrest in Catalonia, it seems unlikely he will extend and could look for pastures new.

Taking into account his pedigree at the highest level, and his impressive passing stats, Rakitic could be worth the consideration depending on his potential price tag.
