Match Thread – Will Spurs Free Themselves From The Toffee Or Will Everton Heighten Tensions Further

|

Following on from the shambles that was our second half capitulation against Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur have a slightly quicker turnaround in the fixture list as we now face Everton in the Friday evening television slot.

Travelling up to Goodison Park for the game, form slightly favours manager Jose Mourinho’s more pragmatic side, but Everton appear to be just as inconsistent as we are, looking very good one game and then very poor the next.

The guessing game for Spurs fans remains the same…which Tottenham turn up and do we even try ‘To Dare Is To Do?’

On an injury front, unless anyone has picked up an unannounced knock, it’s the same pack to choose from with only Ben Davies and Matt Doherty ruled out, but we knew that already.

So, onto the game and we’ll find out whether we will now end the season strongly and put an end to the circling Harry Kane rumours, or not, as the case may be.

Tottenham Hotspur's foundations lie in another sport, which one?

For what it is worth, my two penneth on this “European Super League” for 12 top clubs in the European leagues is…I stand to be corrected, right here goes….

As far as I can see/tell, its the so called 12 teams response to this new 32 or 36 team CL league format that EUFA are proposing, it was to be announced today 19 April.
The response, again as far as I can make out, is because the teams have said that the new EUFA Euro CL lge format is all about making money/profit for EUFA and that as they the 12 take all the risks, as in buying and paying for players, they want a larger cut of the profits from this new format, which has been refused.

So from what I can see it is pure greed firstly on EUFA’s part, being secondly countermanded by the 12 and their greed, this whole scenario is about taking more n more money off the die hard fans.

It is probably far more complicated than what I have written, but its what I think/believe in simplistic terms.

      Good post.

I think it’s simplisitc to lay blame on those clubs when UEFA are just as guilty.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Again WOW…..Ryan Mason and Chris Powell put in temporary charge.

  • PompeyYid says:

Just realised my spelling should be UEFA no EUFA, apologies!

  • DoncasterHotspur says:

Sacked in the morning, he just got sacked in the morning. Yes – the best day of the season bar none.

Bye bye borinho any chance levy gone as well

Thank you Geoff, my guilt is assuaged. The problem is one of inevitability I fear. It used to be that clubs feared losing their match day revenue by allowing cameras in. They didn’t appreciate the global potential of TV revenue. They thought maybe you had to born within sight of the floodlights to be passionate about a team. Well many of us on here who never managed more than a handful of attended matches at the Lane put paid to that notion. My arguments with MU fans in my Belfast playground were no less fierce than those on the High Road or Trafford Way.

    JM is gone!

Lots of Spurs fans will be happy, but I hope this is followed by a complet rebuild now. What’s the point otherwise, if not create turmoil?

  • Niall D says:

I had to double check the headlines a couple of times, indeed Mourinho is gone.
I am to a degree saddened by this as I feel the intentions of Mr Levy to bring him in were the right ones.
I don’t celebrate anyone losing their job, but (for me) JM and Tottenham were a bad fit, I wish we could’ve ran the season down then moved on, however we are where we are.
I wish JM well in his future, and look forward to supporting our new manager when appointed.
I hope he is given a fair chance financially, and that we get active in the Transfer market over the Summer.

Down in the dumps one moment with Super League news, then uplifted by the sacking of Mourinho. Bet we win Carabao Cup with a sudden bounce. COYS.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

You’ve got to think there will be a much lighter mood at the training ground this morning.

Does anyone have any new information or ITK on Kane’s injury?

  • Geofspurs says:

Latest report says that the ESL proposal is moving rapidly ahead, with a possible start date in August! I imagine this will be the main topic on the back pages for many weeks to come. I don’t agree with the idea on principal. It seems crazy that 15 of the clubs cannot be relegated and therefore make way for up and coming clubs. Any competition must suffer under those circumstances. By far the largest group of national clubs in the ESL come from England with six top teams (which is a mute point in itself). How would that affect the Pl if threats to ban those six clubs from playing in it are enforced. Is this the ‘to dare is to do’ time for THFC?

As if the season is not chaotic enough!

  • Geofspurs says:

Bloody hell. I submitted the above comment, checked to see if it showed up, and then read the comments about JM! Now I’ll have to spend 30 minutes getting all the details.

  • 123spurs says:

It couldn’t continue. Happy and little sad at same time. Time for new start a new stragety plan. Who’s next.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

A couple of theories have been put forward to explain the odd timing of the decision. The first is that the situation has been brought about as a result of the goings on at Bayern in that Levy has been forced to act now if he wants to beat Bayern to the signing of Nagelsmann, the other is that Jose is opposed to the formation of a ESL although this is now being denied and that his sacking is solely down the the poor results.

  • Ossie says:

Thank the lord!!!!!! I’ve got my Spurs back

  • Love totty says:

Damn, now I’ll have to watch the final. I had resolved not to suffer anymore but now hopeful of some heroics. Who will pick the team I wonder.

  • Geofspurs says:

It’s improved our chances of a trophy as it’s usual for players to work harder when a manager is fired.

Much respect for Levy. He is never reluctant to make the the hard decisions. He is also, in a sense, holding up his hand and admitting JM was a mistake. Levy follows the THFC motto.

  • Frank says:

Now there is a thing, 17 months too late Mourinho is gone. After the worst spell in recent seasons we have to start all over again. We now have to dig deep, replace some pretenders with proper seasoned triers who want it bad enough, and are good enough, to push the club forward to where we need to be. Mourinho is at least consistent, he loses the players, and kids himself he is still “the special one”. We await with baited breath the next episode.

  • Pauric Carolan says:

Geofspurs, much respect for levy, are you cracked he’s the clown that hired him. He failed to back poch the one good manager he hired in his long rein at this club. Levy hasn’t a clue about the football side of the club.

    • Geofspurs says:

Levy is not afraid to admit a mistake … what’s not to respect in that. He is two things, a fan and a business man. Football is a business. That’s the reality we have to accept. Simply put, we don’t agree.

  • Stan Rosenthal says:

Today lots of posters here will be ringing the bells. Let’s hope that tomorrow they will not be wringing their hands. There is an old saying , beware of what you wish for. Still we always have Ryan Mason to plot the downfall of Pep on Sunday!

    • shroppie says:

Lets see how the player react, if against Southampton we get the same old dross then JM P45 will not be the last
