Match Thread – Spurs Target Three From Three With Watford Up Next

|

With an aggregate victory over Pacos de Ferreira in last night’s Europa Conference League clash, it turns Nuno Espirito Santo’s start to life at Tottenham Hotspur from good, to quite impressive.

Three wins from four as we head towards September, is no bad return, especially given the confusion and issues we have to deal with – although thankfully the future of Harry Kane is now off the table until at least next summer. Everyone hopes the squad is added to, a most have their preferences for who we move on to help cashflow, but for now, it’s all eyes to Watford.

It’s been a mixed start for the Vicarage Road outfit with a win and a defeat from their opening two ties, so arguably ‘form’ is in our favour for whatever that counts for at this early stage of the season, but the return of Kane is a massive confidence booster on top of what has been a defensively steady beginning.

Let’s see if we can make it three PL wins from three and then get a bit more business done.

Watford...

Tottenham Hotspur's foundations lie in another sport, which one?

Doing that doesn’t help anyone 123, better to try and rehabilitate him and bring him back to contribute to the squad otherwise we will take a huge hit monetarily with us having to cancel his contract and let him go for nothing as with Aurier.

  • Geofspurs says:

123 …. Surely that is just being spiteful and counter productive. Why let him sit back and relax while he earns a fortune for doing zilch. Why should it cost THFC money. Just get rid of him as soon as possible.

  • Geofspurs says:

TQ …. Sorry, mate. I’ve just noticed that you’ve already said it.

  • Niall D says:

On the back of the last posts, I’ve just watched a compelation of N Dombers, my goodness but he is, a fantastic skillful player on his day, if we could just get his head and fitness right.

  • TK says:

He hasn’t refused to play, and he’s got a legal contract. We could treat him like Rose in his last year, and send him to sit with the youth in training with no chance to play, but he’d still be getting paid. But the club hasn’t the legal standing to simply decide on their own to stop paying him. If you could figure out how to send him on loan to purgatory…

DL won’t go to court to fight a losing battle.

  • 123spurs says:

He is not playing in now Geoff, so what difference of him training on his own. Knuckle down or he can leave when contracts runs out. To much player power theses days

  • Hot Tottingham says:

Tanguy could well be the key to Tottenhams success story for the coming months…

So far this season, we have looked a very solid and hard working unit. Defensively strong and with a good team ethic. But we are lacking a bit of creative sparkle in our transition from defence through the midfield and into our attacking third.

Tanguy could well be the answer to this. He has the skill and the vision to move us forward. He has good technical ability and a sharpness and flair in his control of the ball. He can find space and he can create. With deft movement and a killer pass.

But, is he up for it? Can he handle the pressure? Does he have enough confidence in his own ability? Will he fight for his right to play? And will he shine?

Over to you Tanguy….. Be bold. Be a Super-Spur. Be a star!

  • wentworth says:

We must get N’Dombele back to playing. He has high skills, can run the midfield, is exciting to watch and could be the midfielder creator we need.
In fact we have no choice. Just hope Nuno can get him working. He cannot be left to waste. It will be almost impossible to sell him if he is not playing to a high standard.

  • PompeyYid says:

Regards N’Dombele, we can all see that he has to be the missing link, as in midfield General dictating the play forward for us, after the disaster that was “under cover agent” Moaninio who for me almost certainly destroyed him, it is now down to Nuno to work his magic, if he has some, on him.

Nuno to get him working, in the right frame of mind, confidence, love him etc, can and will be good for both parties, we! Spurs get the player we originally signed and N’Dombele puts himself on the market if he still wants to leave, thus both getting what we and himself want, if only for a season, simple really so come on Nuno do it, get him back in the fold. Le Celso played for Argentina last night. Guess how long he played for – yes you guessed it – 63 minutes. There is obviously a fitness issue. He always starts for Argentina, always seems to play well and is always hauled off after an hour.
Re N’dombele, he told the club he wanted to leave as soon as he reported back for pre-season and there were no takers. He hasn’t featured in a match day squad yet, either in pre-season or in the premier league. Hopefully he will realise that he only has a future as a professional footballer either at Spurs or elsewhere is if he puts in the same effort in training and on the pitch that Dele is currently doing. What a talent he is.

  • wentworth says:

DH, Lo Celso is rather lightweight, poor passer, rarely scores and falls over a lot. We need a strong, attacking midfielder who can pull the strimgI.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Funny that WW……once again he was lauded for his performance for Argentina, maybe we are just not allowing him to show his best side at Spurs?

  • wentworth says:

Very strange TQ because he does very little for us. His contributions in terms of passes, strikes on goal and goals scored are extremely poor. He does get fouled a lot but is unable to ride tackles when in great positions which ruins the flow of play. Also I cannot believe that a professional footballer can only use one foot which limits his play considerably.
We very much need N’Dombele to get involved and take over the Dembele role of holding the ball and driving forward. He has immense skills and is hard to move off the ball like Dembele. Let’s hope. We need him badly.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

He doesn’t get many starts for us WW, maybe we should give him a few games to strike up an understanding with the other players. It’s not as if anyone else has been creating many chances or scoring so far this season.

  • 123spurs says:

Is ndembele match fit? or he doesn’t fit into Santos plans? He had all summer to get fit and prove himself?

  • TK says:

Ndembele simply seems miserable for some reason. He was miserable under Mourinho–which is perfectly understandable. He remains miserable under Espirito Santos, which is less understandable. Maybe its the London weather? The COVID protocols? In the stars perhaps. Maybe he’s simply constitutionally miserable.

But if he wants a decent career that lives up to the possibilities everyone has had of him, he’s got to shake the misery and find a few drops of joy in life.

Life is short, and it’s not worth being so misrerable all the time, mate. Shake it off.

Missing out on one’s only life surely is a shame.

  • Geofspurs says:

TK …. Good point. Some people are only happy when they’re miserable. If he is one of those people and he is feeling miserable, he should be happy. It’s all so confusing. ; – )

I agree with WW on this one.

  • 123spurs says:

100k plus a week wasted. 55 mil transfer fee, He needs to come out and make a statement.

  • 123spurs says:

GS seriously bringing on kane against part timers, makes no sense on so many levels. Shouldn’t even be in the squad

  • TQ2Spurs says:

I’m sure Harry will be glad to have added to his England goals.
